A donation to Silverton Medical Rescue is Highly encouraged.

Admission is free.

Doors Open 6pm

Film Showing at 6:30pm

Q&A following the film

Witness Ryan McClure, Connor Ryan, and Isaiah Branch-Boyle's experience of surviving multiple avalanches with one another; risking their lives to save each other, the emotional roller coaster of the media coverage that followed, and their process of reclaiming their story and love for skiing.

Surviving Our Story features not only unprecedented avalanche and rescue footage but also a deeper look into what it takes to make the journey back to skiing following a traumatic accident. In this time where media rushes to have the headlines on every story and each outlet is in competition for clicks and views, this film looks deeper into the effects that system has on people trying to reclaim their narrative from the trauma they have lived through.

(This film features real footage from a life threatening avalanche rescue and may be triggering to some audiences. This is not a full analysis of the decision making, rescue, and snowpack surrounding the accident. Stay tuned for more content on those subjects or check out The San Juan Snowcast Season 3, Episode 15.)

Thank you to Winter Wildlands Alliance, A New Earth Project, Salomon, Backcountry Access, Hestra, Honey Stinger, and Winter Park whose support helped bring Surviving Our Story to life.

Endless gratitude to our families and communities who supported us every step of the way.

SPEAKER SERIES: Vulnerability is a Superpower with Marcus Garcia, Professional Climber. Film screening of "The Mentor"

Join Marcus Garcia for a conversation about the emotional roller coaster of grief.

"The discipline to turn the broken shards of our emotions into a beautiful work of art. What you go through, you will grow through. Do not resist the fear confronting you.  Chose to walk with fear.  Not in fear. Look fear  in the face and give thanks for the strength it brought you. Because on the other side is a beautiful work of art. "

-Marcus Garcia

Marcus Garcia has spent nearly two decades establishing some of the most committing and beautiful routes in North America. From cutting edge single pitch climbs to daring 14 pitch adventure, on rock, ice, and mixed terrain, the one thing that all of Garcia’s climbs have in common is the huge amount of work and passion required to create them.” Jackson, Rock and Ice Magazine issue 238

Marcus has over 25 years experience of all-around climbing, and has established over 200 new routes, including everything from traditional, sport, clean aid first ascents and mixed climbing to big walls and desert towers. When he is not climbing he can be found in the mountains running long distances. However his biggest accomplishment and legacy is what he passes on to the next generation of climbers as a coach and mentor as he helps develop the next generation of Olympic Caliber athletes.

Join us as professional climber and guide Marcus Garcia shares the emotional journey of connecting deeply with his climbing mentor and how he managed the grief that came when his mentor died in an accident. Through this journey Marcus discovered a deep meaning and value in grief. The talk will conclude with a powerful film called “The Mentor” which documents some of Marcus’s journey.

Live Music: Pony Hunt + Chela Lujan

Pony Hunt

“The haunted majesty that stitches together the music of Pony Hunt is enough to keep your mind in wonderment for weeks on end.”

-Jacob Uitti, American Songwriter

Jessie Antonick

Born in California, raised in Chicago, transformed by Oakland and set alight by New Orleans, Jessie Antonick’s heart and hands are continually consumed by her passion for songwriting, building, and creating space—an eternally braided compulsion for crafting and evoking emotion, for creating worlds where one’s spirit can roam free—where a wandering mind can find home.

Antonick discovered a love for music early in life in the live venues and record shops of Chicago.  Captivated by doo-wop artists as a child and thrilled by indie and punk rock as a teen, it was her discovery of classic American styles that inspired her to learn to play the guitar.

Longing for the ocean air, she soon settled in Oakland, CA, living on a sailboat whilst building and repairing sails as the push and pull of the tides slowly found their way into her blood, then to the page, and finally to her guitar.  The rising and falling pulse of her heart and the chatter of her mind pushed her to create an elegant, transportable canvas cottage where she set in solitude to discover the melodies and rhythms passing through the light and upon the sea air.  Antonick soon discovered a new home in her ‘78 Chevy van and she followed the sound of the rushing Mississippi River down to New Orleans where she found herself humbled by cultural beauty and set ablaze with inspiration.

It was in New Orleans where Antonick began writing the upcoming Pony Hunt release VAR! . In VAR! she investigates the heart and mind entangled, looking to understand how to be at home with one’s self, exploring the dualities of mind at play within her journey of emotional connection, societal imposition, gender, lost identities and the lesser understood-- discovered variables amongst the seemingly ever still.  VAR! is set to release on July 23, 2021.

Pony Hunt has been featured in American Songwriter, Uncut UK, The Fader, Magnet Magazine, Elmore Magazine, Atwood Magazine, the Vinyl District, Impose Magazine and American Roots UK. Pony Hunt has been listed in American Songwriter’s “top 5 acts to Know” 2020, Uncut Magazine’s “Favourite Albums of 2016” for their debut album Heart Creak, and has featured songs in the Rush Production film “Justine”.

Chela Lujan

Chela Lujan is an artist, activist and mother of Xicana and N’de lineage who has long since made the high-plains of Southern Colorado her home. Lujan spent over a decade writing songs and touring with Pueblo’s own Haunted Windchimes, once deemed “Colorado’s best export since steal,” sharing stages with the likes of Arlo Guthrie, DeVotchka and Pokey LaFarge along with making appearances on A Prairie Home Company and PBS’s Music Voyager. In 2018 after setling into motherhood and homelife where she runs a small batch folk medicine and beadwork business, music called her back to start indie/alternaive band the Hardly Nevers.

There is an overwhelming appeal to Chela Lujan’s material. Her voice has a siren song effect on the listener and brings a hypnotic paean to yearning with a classic air and a ghostly presence.

Speaker Series: Dani Reyes-Acosta presents OUTLIER: Trust - A Backcountry Documentary Episode

Film Producer Dani Reyes-Acosta presents the first episode of OUTLIER: Trust

EPISODE 1: TRUST

Trust is the foundation of our backcountry relationships: with ourselves, each other, and even the land, these are the spaces that define us. Yet in this process of becoming—alpinists, ski partners, Latinas, ourselves—snowboarder Dani Reyes-Acosta and skier Lani Bruntz learn that the journey isn’t just the destination.

We have to believe that our pursuit is not pointless, that our will to survive and thrive takes us somewhere. Maybe, just beyond our pain and suffering, we’ll find the redemption of the infinite.

“El Dorado,” Oil on Canvas

Description:  The Silverton Powerhouse Collective Speaker Series partnered with Town of Silverton presents: Judith Graham, “What is Art?”. Join Judith Graham, MFA, for a presentation and exploration of art, and what we consider the bounds of art to be. We are proud to present this event as part of Silverton Creative District’s Silverton Creates! festival.

For 33 years Judith Graham has lived and painted the geological features which dominate Southwestern Colorado, especially the shapes and colors of the Rio Grande River drainage and the San Juan Mountains. Her paintings communicate a deep connection with place and how one exists and moves about in wild places, particularly those on the tundra, above timberline. She has spent a lifetime in pursuit of the most genuine distillation of ideas as they can be expressed in the visual language of color and shape with paint on canvas.

Judith Graham attended the School of Visual Arts and Parsons School of Design in New York, but received her M.F.A. from the University of Chigago because the broader intellectual and cultural content of visual ideas was important to her.
